In Turkey, the Department of Primary Education was established as the Department of Elementary Education during the restructuring process in 1998 in order to meet the teacher needs in primary education, which emerged after the transition to eight-year compulsory uninterrupted structure in 1997. With the update made in 2016, the name of the department was changed to the Department of Primary Education. The Division of Preschool Education provides teachers to kindergarten/preschool institutions. The Division of Classroom Instruction trains classroom teachers for the first level of primary schools. Graduates can teach in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, as well as embark on academic life with their master's and PhD studies.

Our department has started education by taking 60 students for each Classroom Instruction Program and Preschool Education Undergraduate Program since the Fall of 2018-2019.

The main goals of this department are as follows;

• Educate intellectual teachers who use effective teaching strategies to provide their students with knowledge and skills related to their field, develop new strategic approaches in complex situations, find proactive solutions, continuously improve themselves through lifelong learning, and take responsibility in voluntary work for the benefits of the society,
• Teachers who are able to evaluate both the strategies, policies and practices developed regarding the basic education level and the results obtained from them. Taking into consideration the current developments in line with national values and country realities. Training academics who can conduct their studies on the basis of scientific and ethical values. Applying their knowledge in the field in interdisciplinary studies and carrying out scientific and professional studies independently or on a collaborative basis.
